Flaskpost 27/4
Hey there.
It’s Friday and time for a new Flaskpost. Work is going along pretty good. As far as the Mailstorm work goes I made another intro sequence.
I preferred the intro I made last week. So going to mess around with that one some more and try to smooth it out a bit.
This weekend we will have some company bonding time by exploring the Swedish wastelands in the pen and paper role playing game: Mutant – Undergångens Arvtagare. I’m playing a half insane psychic mailman, Mario is playing a former cop and an overall good guy and Liselott is playing a bounty hunter bird mutant. Also joining us is Sebastian, from Noumenon games, who is playing a robot that wants to murder everything. It should be a fun little adventure we’re going on
Until next week, have a great time.

Flaskpost 20/4
Greetings.
Somehow we managed to combo break our chain of blog posts last week. But we’re back to trying to hit a new highscore.
This week work has continued on the educational game and things are going smooth. But enough about that. I know what you want to hear.
Mailstorm!
I’ve managed to squeeze in some work on it today. Worked on an intro animation where the camera circles around the island and stops at the Coastalbyte logo. But why tell when I can show:
Other than that me and Marcus was talking about an idea for a roguelike-ich game for smartphones and tablets. A prototype of it will have to wait though. At least until Mailstorm is done.
See you next week.

Flaskpost 6/4
Hey guys, Fredrik here to wish you all a great Easter.
The past week our full attention have been on the consulting job. We hit our first milestone with ease and started on the second one.
Spent this Friday poking around on our websites here and there. Changed some stuff and added other.
On the Mailstorm Express side on life, I did work with it last Friday. I built up the scene for the main menu. All that remain now (menu-wise) is just some scripting.
Since it’s Easter I also painted a face on my lunch.

So as you might have figured out, our game jam last weekend kinda died out. Some things came up and we couldn’t work on the Sunday. But we’ll make it up to you guys (cause we friggin’ love you all) and finish the game another weekend.
Work on Mailstorm Express has slowed down a bit since we’ve taken another job to bring in some dough.
But I managed to sneak in some hours of work on it today. I started reworking the menu system since the last one we had wasn’t fit for a smartphone screen. It actually wasn’t much of a menu, just a bunch buttons placed after each other.
The new system has more of a touch interface where you slide around in a scene.
Next week most of our time will be spent on the consult job but I’ll try to sneak in some Mailstorm lovin’ next Friday as well.

Penguin game screen 1
First screen of the penguin game!
We’re going for some kind of turn based strategy game. So far there has been very little game play implemented but we have the important stuff in place (penguins with capes).
Will update again tomorrow!

This is the theme of todays Flaskpost and this weekends Game Jam which will be held here in our office at Gameport. We just recently purchased the Unity asset 2D-toolkit and decided to try it out by making a small tablet game. With Penguins. Lots of them. Mario has been prototyping some graphics already which you can view below:
Unless everything ends up in disaster we plan on making the game available for free on the website once we’re done. I’ll make progress-posts throughout the weekend and we’ll see how things turn out!
Here are some more concepts on paper as well as a photo of the team on thursday bbq:

Aloha!
This week have been crazy insane and mostly about penguins. It all started with someone stumbling upon this live stream . Which caused Mario to go into hyper penguin mode and ended up with an A4 of penguins drawing and several songs about them.
On the Mailstorm side of life I’ve been continuing working on the controls. They are almost done and ready to undergo some play testing to see which works best. And as soon as I can I will implement the design changes Marcus have made. I’d hoped to do it this week but some other work sidetracked me.
Except drawing penguins Mario have continue working on maps and also set up a devlog over at tigsource. So check it for more regular news and updates about the game.
Have a lovely evening and see ya’ next week.

Flaskpost!
Ahoy mateys!
Time for this weeks Flaskpost, and time to review some of the important and interesting
things that have occurred since last time. First and most importantly, we are closing in on our current project for Blekinge Institute of Technology! Yesterday we pulled some playtesting muscle from our friends across the room, 12oClock. They are currently housing two interns from a local high school who both made extraordinary test subjects. Besides being sharp and having a eye for detail, they also fit the games intended audience.
We have been picking up SoulCalibur V here at Gameport, we have decided that everyone in the building should have at least one custom character. That way it will feel that much more personal when one gets beat up by our in house SoulCalibur sensei Felix, at Noumenon Games.
Also, we hope you notice our webpage got itself a facelift, we thought – keep it simple stupid =)
Have a good one until next time!
Sincerely,
Marcus

Ahoy! Flaskpost!

Captains log, earth date: 3/2 – 2012
So here we are again. It’s Friday, Marcus and Mario is playing around in 3D modeling programs trying to learn a thing or two. I’m playing around in Unity trying to create a thing or two.
On Monday me and Marcus boarded a train in Denmark and went back to our small peaceful town of Karlshamn after a weekend of jamming with awesome people.
The rest of the week has mostly been spent on consult work but we actually managed to get in some work on Mailstorm too. We taught Mario how to create map blocks with our system and he made some sweet stuff. Some bugs have been found and written down as well and are now waiting to be exterminated.
Since most of the tech stuff on the consult job is done I’ll probably be able to work a bit on Mailstorm next week.
Fredrik out.

Reporting back from Copenhagen!
Ahoy!
As we promised, here is a small chronicle of our trip to Copenhagen this weekend!
Nordic Game Jam is part of a larger international event known as the Global Game Jam. The Nordic Game Jam is the single biggest Jam with 290 registered developers in 2012.
Me and Fredrik took the train on Thursday, one day before the event started. Aboard, we met up with our friends Olle Lunddahl, Simon Gustafsson and Niklas Ström from Redgrim. It just happened to be Olle’s birthday so we made the entire train ride into a birthday party, complete with balloons, Champis, party hats and cake. We were off to a good start!
Despite of living less than three hours away, I’ve almost never been to Copenhagen before. The coolest thing we discovered almost immediately: Robots in the metro system. There are no humans operating the trains from a cockpit, it really gives the impression of a semi-intelligent master system. Very cool and a little creepy, it makes Stockholm’ metro system feel like that of a a third world country.
We installed ourselves at our hostel and proceeded to the IT-University of Copenhagen, where an introduction party was being held. We met several Danish developers as well as other former swedish students from BTH. It was all good fun and the eveneing ended up in one of the muskiest bars in all of Copenhagen – “The Moose”. Suffice to say, it was quite the feat to get out of bed the next morning, especially if your name was Olle.
Friday was filled with inspirational talks in the university, we listened to Petri Purho talk about making games with highly stylized and simple graphics. We also sat in on a talk about rapid prototyping in Unity, something that will come in handy this summer since I’m probably going to hold a course on the subject on BTH.
